Come Unto Me
When I think of the Lord saying to me, personally, "Come unto me," I think of a
way to actually go to Him. How would I possibly reach Him, with all of the
pitfalls of this life and all of the temptations? What is the quickest way to
reach a specific point? If you or I wanted to reach point A then the quickest
and easiest method would be to focus all attention upon point A. Why not use
this formula as a means to go unto Christ? He wants our very best and He knows,
and we ought to as well, that we are only going to be on top of our spiritual
game when we are focusing our thoughts and lives upon Him.
What is the easiest way to get off track when trying to reach the Father? Sin
will certainly cause us to get off the path. Sin is a disease that seems to
plague us all. Romans 3:10: As it is written, There is none
righteous, no, not one. Not one, includes you and me, and all others.
We know that the Lord is so righteous and holy that He cannot even look upon our
sins. We also should realize that when we sin we should feel remorse and we
should also ask our heavenly Father for forgiveness. However, should we focus
all attention upon this sin that has been committed? Remember, we're trying to
go to Christ as He wishes for us to do. Consider this: You're attempting to get
to point A as fast as possible, but you notice a certain attraction in another
direction and you go towards it. This is only going to lengthen the time it will
take to reach point A because you have adjusted your focus. You're focus and
sense of direction is no longer upon A. Now, you look around and find other
attractions of interest and continue to move farther along another path, as well
as, farther away from point A. Now think of point A as Christ and these other
attractions as sin(s). Sin, and focusing our minds upon what we've done wrong,
we only cause us to lengthen our distance between us and Christ.
So, what can one do to prevent that from occurring? The Lord says...Look unto
me (Isaiah 45:22). That is the only way we are going to draw closer to Him
is by focusing upon that which is most important-Christ. I think that Christ
wants us to learn from our mistakes and the sins we commit and press on. I know,
from personal experience, that when I forget to look unto the Lord I have
a tendency to be drawn farther away from Him.
Not only will we be able to draw closer to Christ when we look unto Him,
but we will also be much more likely to not commit the foolish and child-like
(pertaining to our Christian growth) sins of our "fleshly or carnal" nature.
When our minds are stayed upon Christ we will not have to go on our own to Him.
Christ will begin to draw us unto Himself and will begin to dwell much stronger
within our minds and spirits. Then the road that we travel to meet Him will
become shorter and shorter and it will become much easier to stay on track.
